Hiked half of AT in New Jersey this past weekend, and came upon a beaver dam and some of their handiwork. Those little rascals can handle some decent sized trees.

I cant recall. We passed two large fire towers though on this hike. We hiked north from the Delaware Water gap and covered 38 miles. Those pictures were from the middle day, so I think they were about say 20-24 miles north of the water gap. We did climb up one of the fire towers but the little cabin thing at the top was locked. Didn't actually see any beaver, but saw their lodges and also their handiwork.

That has been worked on awhile ago. They will chew so far and then wait for the tree to fall. And wait. Still waiting.

I used to know a guy in the 70's who owned a pond up north. At dusk he would call out to beaver named Bert, I thought he was pulling my leg for sure. But sure enough, a V-wake would happen and along comes this beaver that came right out of the water and took a stick out of his hand. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it.

Added bonus, that pond was full of brook trout. Some good eating there.
