Have a tree that is pretty much dead near my new shed. Would like to bring it down rather than it fall down.

What is your guess at what it is?

Boxelder i think. Not a lot of alternates with that kind of leaf shape.

Thanks. Been a while since I ran into that. Sounds like I got myself some shoulder season wood then. :)

One that big might get some wood turners interested. Bet it is all kinds of red and purdy on the inside.

Box Elder is fine, fine firewood also. I burn a fair bit every year.

Some sections can be a bit gnarly to split though....................knotty, twisty grain etc.

Agreed. The chutes on the truck are almost a dead give away. Shoulder season wood in my world, but it will burn! :dex:

My "Bud the cabinet maker", says that the red streaks in box elder will fade after a while. I dunno, I just burn it in my stove!!

He's correct, it will. The red will return if you splash water on it. I don't know if that works for wood finish, but it must because I've seen some really cool wood projects on this fourm that still had lots of red.

Funny thing...my bride has suggested that I get a chainsaw mill....yes that's right, she wants me to buy more chainsaw tools. Maybe this would be a good excuse?

    She's a keeper for sure! :)
