this Ash will split enough that it will come down, it's been around three or four years since it started.

I've never really checked, I thought it all started at the bottom where it was rotten.

Yes, then a new spit just started to the left of the original split.

I think we'll get that ice storm this year, I hope not but with the temperature swings they're predicting, it should/could :zip: happen.

By the time it makes it to the ground it may be dry enough to use.

I had a heavy 8 inch branch on a mulberry start to do that right over my shed roof. As all have observed it was a matter of time before it came down on its own but I didn't want my shed crushed. I ended up climbing on top of the shed then cutting weight off of it at waist level until I felt pretty good just cutting it like I was bucking a small log standing on the ground. The branch stub is still there because I didn't want to work it from a ladder and I ran out of shed roof to stand on. Not enough branch left for it to become an issue any more. Sooner or later that whole tree needs to go, but I will be selling the house next year and it looks pretty where it is in the summer so it will be an asset for the sale.

I'm thinking all it would take is a rope and a little tug.

But that's the beauty of the three year plan (probably closer to 10 by now for woods;)). Don't need it any time soon, so let Ma nature take care of it. Shouldn't take much longer.
