Been warm here to. Not a fire yet this year and the next two weeks look to be in the 60's. Great for the wood supply but the deer don't like it and are not moving at all.
Its been milder than normal here as well. That being said weve had frost for over a month now and have been using the stove regularly but definitely shoulder season practices. Its 6 c here and raining. I had some coals in the stove from last night so I threw a few small splits in the stove and will let it go out now and then get er going again tonight. El Nino will likely give us a milder than normal winter this year but anything will be better than last winter which was the mildest winter Ive seen in the 17 years Ive lived here.
Isn't it interesting that depending on your location, the weather last year was milder than normal or frigidly cold. We've had the latter the past two winters.
Yep it's milder, haven't burned much wood. Been raining too much though the leaves are all wet , I need some nice sunny days to dry them out and then a 50 mile an hour wind blow em all away
Yes it is interesting! I was thinking the same thing while I was posting. Many of you have been slammed the last few years! Last winter I had to stop ice fishing by mid February as it just wasnt safe anymore. The norm here is that we are still able to ice fish into April here even on milder years. The good side was that I had a bit more wood left at the end of the burning season.
But many tend to forget that last December was really nice weather as was the first half of January. What is remembered is the bitter cold February we had. Well, the last half of January was a bit cold too... But I'd be very happy if all Decembers were like last year.
I just had a fire on Saturday to knock the chill out and today its 72 and humid supposed to be mid 70's with over night low 60's all week. We had our first frost 11/3 last year and November was a below normal-cold month for here. Last El Nino we had some weeks in Jan & Feb where it was in the 70's - bring it on
It's been a very warm September/October here as well. The last two years I burned about 1/2-2/3 of a cord during the same period of time, and this year I've burned just shy of 1/4 cord. That should all change with a cold front that's forecast to pass through tomorrow evening. We'll have lows in the teens and highs barely getting above freezing in store after that.
Same here Been a long Fall season for us. Getting to be more normal now, 20° s at night, near 30° days 20 hour burns for the last few days. I've no doubt winter will come ! All a matter of how when & far below zero it gets
I kinda like my winter.... Growing up in Vancouver I didn't get much of it unless we went up to the mountains. I've lived in the mountains for over 20 years now. Dont get me wrong though, when its done I'm glad its over.
In the 70's the next few days with cool evenings here in Northern Kentucky. It looks as though things will begin to cool some next week. We've had a few fires but I've probably not burned more than a couple dozen splits. The air is so dry and the sun is so hot I can stand between stacks and hear the wood dry!
It was 35 deg. this morning, I was off to work, and the wife just kicked on the furnace for 10 to 15 minutes to take the chill out. It got back up to 70 today, no fires in this heat wave!
Still 76 humid and overcast. Same the rest of the week - next week normal temps of mid 60's and low 40's but no sign of frost in sight
High 30's as of now. Rest of week low 40's and nights in the 20's. 45 to 50 mile hr winds. Colder than normal.
