I think I paid about 200/ton for them, so on a $/btu basis they are indeed cheaper. However...I'm spoiled by my pellet furnace, but its out of commission right now. I HATE the noise and mess in the living area associated with the free standing stove, so I'm avoiding firing that up if possible. The furnace is out of commission right now while I'm switching out the SCF for the Revolution. I'm happily paying $30 extra to avoid toting pellet bags and cleaning a stove till probably December.

The other factor at play here is that my propane company noticed that I wasn't buying any propane when they came out to move the tank so I could put the pool in, and charged me the $100 fee for tank rental. Hadn't been assessed that one before. As long as I buy at least 500 gallons, I can avoid the fee next year, and hopefully disappear back into the system again. I already bought 280 gallons to fill the tank because it was almost empty, so I only need to buy another 220 to make them go away. Pre-buy is around $1.50 right now, so by the time I figure the rental fee into the equation, I'll be torching some gas this fall, and probably spring shoulder season too.
