Yesterday was 38f. and today a whopping 40f. So yesterday I had to rake a path up the roof to the chimney, knowing that today's warmth and sun (OMG what is that bright light in the sky) would melt away the little remaining snow on our black shingles. We have easy access to brush the flue except for snow/ice on the roof.

We have burnt about a cord so far and nearly a quart of black flake came out. The beverage bottle is included for illustration of scale only (heheh). No evidence of the dreaded glazed creosote was seen.

The flue is single wall 6" stainless with a straight vertical rise of 24' and the class A pipe is insulated with Thermix. As always, the top 6 to 8 feet had all the buildup where the masonry chimney goes through the cold attic and exposed brick chimney seen in the picture above. With the constant snow here, I didn't wanna get on the snowy roof to brush the flue. Thank goodness for today's thaw.

Great that you got that done Gark. It does surprise me to see so much bare roof there. Good thing this time of the year. That bright sunshine did its job well.

I had intentions, but didn't get home until after dark. Not too concerned, and it will warm up again. I hope.

The trees along I-75 thru mid-Michigan looked a whole lot different today than yesterday.

It was looking like the ice would cover everything all winter until this thaw. Next coming week will be Arctic deep freeze again.
