I put oil in the tank today!:emb::picard::tears:

The price has stalled at $1.93gal for a few weeks. It's bound to go up in no time so I figgerd I'd at least put another 50 in the tank.

That's ok. I went to put the boiler on the other night as it was going below 32. I went to light the pilot, yeah, still lit from the spring.

    Oil hoarder! :hair:

But at that price, your smart!

I've used a 1/2 tank roughly the last 3 year. Purchasing more has crossed my brain though....:faint:

I've used roughly 50-60gal in the past few years. Most was last year just keeping the house extra warm because of baby piney and the frigid temps. I have a feeling once the price turns and it starts climbing it may not stop. We haven't seen prices like this in years. If it starts climbing I'm gonna put another 50-100 in the tank :emb:

Compared to my neighbors who don't burn wood, who go through three 500 gallon tanks of oil per winter, your consumption is a grain of sand on the beach. Besides, isn't oil just sunshine stored millions of years ago?

I top ours off every fall and don't feel bad about it. It was around $350 for a half tank last month. There are many days when it's just too warm for a fire, but cool enough where a little heat is needed. We seem to use a little less oil every year though.

I just bought 150 gals. @ $ 1.89.00 that will last me three or four years, like Norky said, to warm for a fire. Take the chill out in the AM. Forced hot air, only need to run it 15 minutes and done.

Nothing wrong with buying oil. Burning it, on the other hand, well....

Burning wood is awesome, but oil is great when you need to go away for an extended period or like you said when you want to quickly heat up the house.

Oil is such a PITA. We've used a combination of oil and wood all of my life. If I could get completely off oil, I'd do it at the drop of a hat.

I've gone two years without a working furnace in 2008 & "09" , so I went with no oil. I just gotta clear the pumpkins from around the stove to get at it. It is times like now the oil gets used, sparingly! no more that 15 minutes a day. The wood stove will be on line next week.
