Anyone see something new to market this season? I'm on the look out for new stuff to try. Tips on where to look couldn't hurt either. Any thing you fella's can suggest would greatly be appreciated! So far I have this seasons Turmans and going to put them head to head against Country Boy white lighnings. I heard high ash rumors on the Turmans and these 2 bags are from a batch that seemed ashy. Never burned the Country boys myself. Should be interesting? I also have some Intant Heat(some say Heatless) a friend found and said they seemed pretty decent. We shall see. I may also compare the PTL's to the green letter liggies if I have time. I like the head to heads reviews myself. Energex Golden pellet(both soft and hard) are only my list. Other than that I'm pretty much looking at the same old stuff. Were de heck is Mr Warm, I need samples!
Nobody? Anyway. When chatting with Gbreda, He mentioned North Country, How they did pretty well for him and his better half. I haven't tried them so I will added them to the list. Now I just need to find them locally! Maybe CTpellet has em?
I tried the North Country late last season on the advice of my dealer. I think they were a startup last year with a great pellet but some palatalizing issues where some of the big pallet bag seams were not sealed well and leaking. This obviously resulted in a few wet bags on some pallets. The company compensated by giving credit to the dealer and he was able to sell his stock at 225.00 instead of 265. A friend bought a pallet (60 bags) and I bought 20 bags from that to try. We had no affected bags and these things burned like Spruce Pointes of several years ago, Hot, clean, low ash and almost no fines. These are my cold season pellets this year...bought 3 pallets with 1 being last years stock and 2 dated this past May. Will see if the 2013 ones are as good for this new company...I sure hope so. The Spruce Points have risen in cost more than I am willing to pay, plus my dealer has had too much shipping damage on them last year or 2.
I heard Spruce Pointe may have been off last season. Seems when they can't keep up with demand the urge to let quality slip may have nipped em. If I can get some I may add them so we can compare to the North County. I have enough cash for a dozen(less what I have) or so brands, I'm hoping the boxes might get something new to grab besides GS and Inferiors. So if there is anything else the vets might wanna see. Let err rip!
There's a place not far from me that advertises pellets for 179/ton (Atwood Forest Products in Cedar Springs). I might stop in and see if they would sell me a few bags to try. They make them on site from what I can gather. They deal in hardwood logs and what not. I figure its worth a shot to see what they're like. Outside of that, there isn't much for variety in my area.
Definitely the Energex Golden's!!!! Jay...If I happen to get some of these, I'll UPS you a bag for testing.
The Spruce Points I have are either 2 or 3 seasons old. I threw in a bag of those 2 weeks ago and man did they blow away the MWP softies I had left from last year. Unfortunately the MWP soft did not impress me. Too bad as I was really hoping to use local fuel. Given that this years MWP soft were the same price as North Country, it was a no brainer for me.
Eek! Thanks for the offer, But I'll be frugal for ya. That's will be way too expensive! Cheaper for me to drive 160 round trip in my gas mizzer. I found em, Just need to take a ride someday. I will need to find something of interest the wifey will also like nearby and will take a run for them! Pretty sure the ones I tested were left over from the previous year. Only way to tell was check the tag on the pallet. It was gone when I got to em. I heard from a few others that they also didn't have the heat they expected from the spring 2012 batch. Maybe if Scot L. ran them all the time he could tweak the process. Not to mention he needs to get em in and out as quickly as possible. Only has a small window before he needs to get the blends rollin to meet demand. Even the blend seems low on heat this season. Bags are aweful puffy and desity is rather low on what I found(41 lbs/sqft).
Actually just priced it with UPS....about $27 or so to ship......it's for the greater good of all pellet heads....I can get the Golden hardwood but they are an hour away but I just might road trip it!
LOL!! If I was to ever find anything good my way, I would ship it for sure. Just got Greene Golds by me. Yeah!! The best pellets I burned so far are the 100% Pine Horse bedding pellets made by TSC. But with the ton pricing around $300. I will pass and just buy a few bags here and there to keep my curiosity peaked!! Did I mention they SMELL AWESOME!!
Yes but never burned them. Most people had less than stellar reviews on them. You could be our guinea pig?
