The last time we did a shuffle with the kids bedrooms, I mentioned that we should move into our family room, and let the two girls share our bedroom. 4 or 5 years later, and my wife says to me today that we should move into the family room, and let the girls share our bedroom. Hmmm. Think I've heard that before. Not sure where, but I know I've heard it.

All three of our kids are due for beds. My oldest son is 6' 3 1/4" and is too long for his bed. Our middle daughter has two mattresses that rest of the floor, and our third daughter has been sleeping on our floor while I finish a third floor bedroom.

The new plan is for my son to move to the third floor. His old room will become my office and the computer desk/equipment will be moved in there. This is a blessing as where my desk sits now provides no sound or privacy when I am on conference calls.

We move our room to the family room where the wood stove is located. Yeah. It's a large room for us, but I'll need to figure out closet and other space.

Our two girls will move into our room and share it. It's not a small bedroom. Rather large. Even with the two of them in there.

The family room moves back downstairs to our living room. It's small, but cozy. Growing up, there was a wood stove in that room. It's going to be a bit of challenge to keep that room warm enough without a wood stove, but we'll figure something out. (The mini split thread I started has something to do with this.)

If you've read this far, you deserve to hear the funny part. My wife literally said this today. This afternoon we went out picked up beds for the three kids. Tomorrow I start moving the chest pieces around the board, and putting the new beds together. My son and middle daughter will be helping me in the am, then we are all together in the afternoon to make the push to get my wife and I moved and the girls. The rest of the move can happen over the following two or three weeks.

At least my wife had the courtesy to pick a bye weekend for the Patriot's.

Besides, your kids will all fall asleep immediatly after all the sports your family does :)

And, we moved our master bedroom into the living room while our hardwood floors were being put in :handshake:

I guess since the stove was installed while it was the family room, it's OK to have it in what will become the bedroom .. interesting interpretation of fire codes, but then, I'm new here........................

I looked through our fires codes, and do not see any reference to not being able to have a wood stove in a bedroom. Please elaborate. If there is a code against it, we'll certainly move the wood stove.

Also keep in mind that the plan has us removing the wood stove next year and installing a mini-split for heating/cooling.

What would be the difference from having a wood stove in the bedroom as opposed to a fireplace found in some older homes? I would think the wood stove would be safer - definitely romantic!

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I think it will be wise to move the stove out of the bedroom. You will sleep better where it is cooler. And having the heat from the stove in the main living area will be good. Your heat will rise. Good luck.

Sounds like the kids are growing fast. Needs change. Kids leave and you become empty nesters. Then the rooms change again because you need a large gathering area when you have home events. Have fun and enjoy it all while it last.

What a day. Cleaned the family room. Disassembled our bed, moved it into what was the family room. Re-assembled our bed in our new bedroom. Moved our bedside tables. My wife cleaned our bedroom in preparation for me to assemble the girls beds. Went and mopped the floors with hot water and vinegar. Then assembled the first bed in two and half hours. Second bed I was able to complete in an hour. Bedtime, all is good.

Kids are happy. Wife is happy, and they baked me a chocolate cake as a thank you.
