I am thinking of buying a Poulan 3314 Wood Shark for my wife. It can be had for $63 remanufactured from eBay. Other than hating on the brand, what do you think of this idea. She would be a light user, cutting 6" stoff at the large end. I have considered used "better" names, and have looked at rechargeables, but can't easily justify the price for one worth having. Has anyone run one, and can give thoughts? Greg
I've run dozens of the 42cc Poulans - which this one probably is. I think they change the stroke and use 1 cyl for all 33cc - 42cc. But I've never measured. Anyway, yeah, I'd get and use for limbing and light firewood bucking. I WOULD TUNE IT RICHER, THOUGH. And the Oregon 91VXL chain is much better.
No AV could bother her hands. Otherwise tune it as soon as you get it. Come LEAN from factory. If you were closer I have a 46cc lighter saw with AV. PP295. Also have a lighter echo 3900 with AV.
Look for a pp220 pp260 pp295 in poulan = AV. Most times 220 260 runners can be bought in the 50's in like new shape still.
I had the wild thing bug a few years ago. Found one for a deal. Fixes it and sold it soon after for $50 in perfect shape. Everyone is right. They leave your hands numb...its like holding into a concrete vibrator!
Like cut4fun mentioned the Poulan Pros have the anti vibe on them. My favorite that he mentioned would be the 295. It is 46cc, spring anti vibe, chain brake, and a worm gear drive oiler. I Carry one in the back of my truck because it always starts. You can spot the Poulan Pro models because they are yellow while a lot of the others are green.
I picked one up with a few other saws and fixed it up and sold it. It did cut very well for a 33cc saw. Like everyone says, keep your eye out for a Poulan pro model with anti vibe. If you take care of them they will last a good long time. I have a 295 I carry on my ATV. It is a very good homeowner saw with decent power and is light weight. They are a better saw than the MS 170 - 180 saws at a much better price.
