Dusky, when thinking about cant hooks and hookaroons (or pickeroons; same thing), I have always appreciated and prefered those with wooden handles. For one thing, they feel much better on the hands in cold weather and it is hard to beat a good wood handle.

Here are mine, but pictures really are not to size:

And dusky with a wood handle because of the shape of the handle , as opposed to a round one, you never have to look to see which way the point is pointing.

So what brand is the wooden handle one? How easy does the spike release? On the Stihl/Logrite ones I have seen vids of them and they release with a little wrist flick.

To each his own, my Logrite is tough, quick and the perfect length at 30" for me, they make them to 36"-the shock absorbent handle and the pin-punched hook can be replaced at your Stihl/Logrite dealer, if you ever wear it out which I am doubting will happen for a long time---I police my stacks like a sentry with it-It is the same product, LR just paints them a different color for Stihl and I found the best deal on mine @ Baileys

Sounds like you may have misunderstood the posts about the wooden handled Hookeroon, we were not putting down the Logrites etc, they are good tools, the posts were simply stating what we liked about the wooden handle type.
I have used both the round and wooden handle and I personally like the wooden handle better. :)

dusky I bought the Peavey hookeroon from Baileys. It is the wood handled version that is 36". I like it and it releases with just a flick of the wrist. Back saver too.

I think there is room in my tool kit for both types! I like having doubles of things anyways so I can keep some in my truck and not have to haul stuff back and worth to wherever.

No reason to have 2 of those.

I bought the wood handled version at Bailey's. Think I may have bought the cant hook there too. Had to buy a new cant hook because someone with light fingers lifted mine and I had that thing for many moons. Also, you won't wear out that hookeroon even if you live to 100.

Oh no sir, and no offense taken-just my two cents helping a brother wood nut make an informed decision-I'm just as passionate about the aluminum handle, especially the padded grip---Have a wonderful day and happy splittin!
