http://www.mreinfo.com/ has full menus, sorted by year, for MRE, First Strick, RCW, C rations and many other military meals. Dig in!

That's a cool site, Grizzly Adam.
When my uncle finished up his 4 years in the GB's, he brought home a few cases of "c" rations- I was about 11 yo(1983)- and I ate them things at lunch in 6th grade every day til gone! Don't know how old they were, but they came in cardboard box, with the small style cans...

C-Rats were apparently shelf stable for many years. I ate them as a teenager in the seventies and as a Marine in the early eighties. I'm assuming the one's I ate were Korean War vintage, but could have been from WWII for all I know. In my opinion, better tasting than MRE's.

When I was in the Army back in 85 they were terrible! They would keep you alive, but I sure didn't enjoy them. I think that's why to this day I can eat anything cold. As long as it was cooked once, I can eat it right out of the refrigerator! They did not improve by the time I got out in 1989. I hear they have their own tabasco sauce bottle in them now. Every one I served with carried their own bottle with them, that's why Tabasco is still my go to sauce. My sons who served in last 10 years say they are not to bad now, I guess I will just take their word for it, LOL>

Got some picked out for Friday night when my buddy and I head out to the camp and play with guns. Looking forward to it. The kids all love them too, it's kind of like opening a present for them.

I'm glad you like them. I'm retired military and to be honest, I hope never to have MRE's again. I think because I associate other things with them. Did you know they used to have smokes and TP in with them!

If I ever had to eat them I am sure I would be less than thrilled. It's something I remember fondly from my childhood-- my brother served in desert storm. He came home with a bunch of MREs. I remember reading about the smokes, they still have the TP.

As a former medic, drink LOTS of water when you eat M.R.E's. If you don't they will bind you up tight as a drum!

    Everyone

or MRE 3 lies for the price of 1

first one I had was in basic was a dehydrated pork patty, newsflash, it wont rehydrate in cold water worth a damm, was like a pork flavored semi soggy rice cake. they got better by the time I left service , but still they weren't exactly "Top Chef" material

Best I've heard is "Meals that Refuse to Evacuate." They do make men's night out at camp a lot funner, though.

I worked at an outdoor recreation store in late 80's and early 90's. The new fangled but expensive backpacking meals were terrible then too. I had the gumption to try some authentic MRE's and I like them better.
