Start working on it in the morning. Looks to be about a cord of oak on the ground. And offered to take the rest of the dead teees down this fall and got the go ahead! I could count 7 from where I was standing. Looks like I'll be on the 4 to 5 year plan once I get those trees down. (15 full cords)
Will tomorrow! Not going to work too hard, but hope to get a least a pickup load if not 2. Suppose to hit low 80s so not terribly hot but warm enough!
Standing dead OAK, A MEGA BTU score !!! Sweet ! Sometimes that helps oak to be a bit drier & only take 2 years to season
Here's the pics as promised: This will add to 18/19's wood if I'm counting right. All of these rounds had my 20" bar fully burried with a quick cut on the other side required. Splitting em vertical into manageable chunks Switched to horizontal, almost done! Making the truck earns its keep. It was squatting pretty good! There is another load and possibly another 1/2 on the ground still. A little smaller in diameter. And all this still standing: (4 trees in this one) At least 3 in this one
Someone that responded to my Craigslist add after a long dry spell!! Only 10 miles from where I live! This wood will hopefully be burned in a new stove in a new house.
Yes sir! All my wood (15+ cords) has come free either by finding the add or replies to my wanted add. Plus I have left some for campfire wood or their own woodstoves on trade.
Check to see if your local township or city has a wood dump/yard waste facility, the one in town by me heated our house, the neighbors, 2 buddies (all owbs) and also sold a lot of wood out of it, that's 4+ just people that I know of, not to mention the other people of the city that grab it, theres more wood than I could take in a summer down there now and the pile grows every week!
Gonna be a busy summer. Good to be able to split rounds that size, easier on the back Some nice size trees in there. Primo wood score
I randomly check mine out. Score a truck load or 2 of pine and boxelder once in a while. I snag those and make campfire wood to sell as well. All the tree companies that use it sell hardwood logs so its pretty sparse for good btu woods! Plus I like being out in the woods!
Great! Hasn't met a round it won't split. It kicks down into low and powers straight through knots without issue. Motor hasn't bogged a bit.
Oak whilt, it will take out a grove of trees over time. Its a mold/fungus that starts in the root system and migrates into the trunk eventually killing the tree. It is common in areas with lots of undergrowth where the sun can't get to the forest floor.
Thanks, always learning something new here. We have lots of oak around here. I've never seen a area where they were all dead. Most Oaks around here get old, weak, then storm damage. Our storms take a heavy toll on our forest. There always seems to be new growth when one of those tress comes down and opens up the forest floor to sunlight.
