It doesn't start popping on me like that, until I start moving the coals round with the rake.
I had some serious fireworks flying out of there the other day.
Usually I get one or two little pops and then it quits but that time it just started popping like crazy :hair:
I don't know what wood caused it ,I had sugar maple and red oak in there
Got one small burn on my neck
The cat was haulin azz, gone to the other end of the house in a millisecond

I always have to be mindful of fireworks with Osage, especially when I move the logs around or rake coals. It doesn't usually shoot beg embers, but it gets real sparkly.

Yes, sugar can spark like crazy. One advantage of the relatively small Woodstock side doors....most of the fireworks stays in the stove.

After I stir up the coals after a load of hedge it sounds TV static for about 5 minutes...just tons of continuous sparking. You have to get the door shut in a hurry.
