Are 394xp and 395xp parts interchangeable. Such as handle gas tank assembly, clutch cover, starter cover, airfilter cover. I might be getting one that got busted up by a tree.
Yes 395 parts are easier to find, but most 394 parts are still relatively easy to get. If you need something lemme know.
So I got the 394xp today. Nearly everything on the outside of the saw was damaged. Internally, only the intake elbow was busted. I think to get it running again will require the intake elbow, trigger assembly and the chain brake needs replaced. I will try to get pics uploaded.
I got the saw running again. It has a ton of power. I had the saw shop tune the carb but it still seems to be 4 stroking even after its warm. Unless it has the bar buried and is pulling hard. Then theres no stopping it. I pulled the muffler and the gasket shows that there appeared to be an oily residue on it and the back side of the muffler. Looks like the gasket and studs were bent. So now the plan is to order new exhaust.
That's how it should be, i.e. the 4-stroking should only go away under load, not simply because it's warmed up.
Only dropped once. But seriously it looks like it was a low hour saw before the unfortunate incident. Better a good running beat up saw than a shelf queen any day.
That's why I like my own ears the best ! Sounds like it can be leaned out on the H screw just a tad.....but it sounds close. Should clear up under load.....burble while not.
I looked at the piston through the exhaust port this morning. It has very visible cutter marks. No scoring. Just a little golden at the top. The previous owner said in 17 years he did not have 20 hours on it.
If you ever decide to pull the jug there's a good gain to be made by just setting the squish. The 394 has huge squish from the factory. and look what's in my bench right now.
One day i am sure it will have some work done. For now I am still grinning ear to ear when its pullin hard. How would this saw do with a MM. Seein as I am going to a buy a new exhaust I thought I might try to do one on the new one. Like where the crankcase was broken so it would serve a purpose to not be there. Also this saw will have periods of time where it will sit a while. The saw shop I go to suggested converting it A/V gas for better shelf life. Any thoughts on this.
Buy a quart of canned fuel and drain the pump gas and run that through it for a minute and leave it in it.
