This year I will have about a cord of shoulder wood that I am looking to part with. I'm considering selling my shorts, uglies and punks when I'm done processing. I already have 2 years worth in my shoulder bin in the backyard and I really don't have anyplace to put it. I also have a new tree length delivery coming in July so the process will continue with no worries of not having more for 18/19. Has anyone ever sold shoulder wood? I'm wondering how to price it? The amount of wood will be a guess at best, not sure stacking the uglies with all the shorts will get any results a true buyer of cordwood would expect. What's a good price for about a cord (or slightly just less than) of shoulder wood. 1/2 is seasoned and 1/2 is partially.
We have lots of folks who come up and stay at the local campgrounds nearby. Quite a few "locals" sell "campwood" at the end of the driveway on the honor system.
My wife would kill me if I put up a stand at the end of the driveway selling firewood here. If it were just me I'd do it but we live in suburbia and I may get a 'look' from a neighbor. Not that I care about all my neighbors, some of them don't even wave back when I wave hello.
Suburbanites buy shoulder wood for backyard fires around here. Sell it cheap and it'll go quick. I sell a heaping 10 cube wheelbarrow of uglies for $20. If they want a face cord or more, I sell for $50 per face. Most think that's too much wood since it won't fit in the trunk lol. If she won't go for a little stand or even barrow full, just post a small sign with phone # by the road. As far as not being seasoned...my $ says it'll be the driest wood they have ever bought. Just sell it cheap and don't lose any sleep over it being marginal in your opinion.
I guess my thoughts were taking me more towards woodstove burners vs. backyard fire pits. I figured the backyard burners would burn pine and anything they could get their hands on cheap, not hardwood. Maybe I'll give CL a try.
I doubt regular wood burners would be very interested but one can always try. Backyard burners or campers probably would be the best bet.
About 5 years ago, our grandson came up camping with his dad other grandparents. I told them to stop by and get some firewood. They got some nice dry pine. The Oak stays here.
My son sells campfire wood this time of year. I built him a rack 2' wide x 4' tall. We load it up with popple and sell it for $20. Teaches him how to work for his money, and ensures that I get help making firewood.
I like the idea of teaching kids to earn a living. Mine are still a little to small to help with anything but the stacking.
Put an add on CL. Firewood, camp fire wood, fire wood XX$ for X size : cubic feet , bag, wheelbarrow full.
Yeah I think selling it as camp fire wood is the way to go. I sold a few armloads of punky pine at a campground years ago for $20. I wasn't going to charge the guy anything but he felt guilty that I take some money. When I said ok give me a buck he said all I got is a 20. If I could sell all my wood at that price I would be a millionaire.
Sometimes it is easier to sell stuff than give away . Weird but true. Give it away, they think it's junk, sell it for $5, no longer junk, has value
I just sold some last week on a Facebook yard sale sight. Was probably about a cord of crotches and uglies based on how it looked on the trailer. Wanted it gone so I priced it really low at 50 bucks. Was sold 10 minutes after posting it. I posted in the header "great for OWB owners". Had about 10 more inquire in the half hour between when it was sold and when I pulled the post. I priced it low to move it but owb owners will jump on it.
There's a guy near me that advertises on craigslist, he built a box about 4' x 4', he sells a box full for $40
Neither. I actually have a milk crate my wife got at a garage sale that was full of "Gulf Wax".....about 16 lbs. of it. The crate is on the front porch at the moment. Just needs a butt pillow.
