So this Saturday our school is doing a lot of volunteer work in the community. I have volunteered to lead a group of kids to clean up the school campus, especially near our high school (I work at the middle school). So today I was emailing the ag teacher at the high school to figure out what they needed done. Well they needed flowers planted and mulched, and weeded. Ok I said but we'll be there for 3 hours. Well, she said, do you know how to run a chainsaw? Yeah I've done it once or twice lol! She said some trees have come down on their nature trail that they really want out. I said we could do that and where would you like me to put the wood. She said take it if you want it, it just needs to go. So free wood AND free help? Sign me up!
X2(& happy bday Minnesota Marty!) Shag........ who-a! Would be a great opportunity red oak to offer some much needed life skills to the youngin's, if you can hold their attention for more than 3 minutes....
' do you know how to run a chainsaw ' he asks. How funny is it that, he asked a hoarder about a chainsaw. Of course I know
Free! I'm guessing it's pine, because the last time I was on their nature trail that's pretty much all I saw.
It's all BTUs + You get to run your saw , fell trees & be a hero , & you get to take what you want. Being a nice guys pays !
Pine isn't as bad as it's made out to be, especially if it's free! A lot of limbing though. But with the help you'll come out of it with a lot of free shoulder season wood and kindling!
My thoughts exactly, and I've actually been looking for a cord or so of pine to get me through the shoulder season next fall. I have plenty of oak for the cold winter nights but would to be more selective about when I use it. Hoping to look at the trees tomorrow and get a pic or two.
