You will also find those in MI, but in Northern MI there is a lot of pulp and that is all cut at 8' lengths. Well, not only in MI but all over the north country. I recall several years ago when they were cutting like crazy in the UP and got a million board feet stacked up. Made for some very large piles. Also, MI saw it's big lumbering days many moons ago and white pine was the big producer. There were mills all over the state but today not so many are left.
if you refresh the page it will come back if you want it to. That and YouTube videos have been doing that to me lately also
I wish we had more of those magnificent big trees left. I don't understand how anyone can cut a healthy one down. And I hope people use them as seed trees.
The twin cities of Maine. Lewiston/ Auburn. That's the first Lewiston I think of, but then again I used to live in Maine. Sportscaster Erin Andrews is from there. I wasn't aware there even was a Lewiston Michigan.
Hard times with people trying to feed their families in the new frontier. No telling what I'd do if I had to feed my family.
Not much there except for some very nice people, a beautiful lake and it is surrounded by woods. Very low population in and around Lewiston; one of the things that makes it beautiful. PapaDave lives not too far from there.
Funny anecdote for you seeing as things on FHC are a little slow this time of year. Oliver! the hound in my avatar, came from Mexico, Maine. He is a Walker Hound/Heinz 57 mix, but looks very "houndy". I am out with the dogs a lot and run into tourists in the summer all the time. People ask me all the time what breed of dog he is, enough so that I have developed a canned response. In the thickest Downeast accent I can muster I tell them, "well Deah, that dog right theah is whatcha call a Maine Hound Dog." Some people will show a little interest in that response, which will usually lead to them asking "where'd you get him?" To which I answer, "dammedest thing wouldncha know, I found him in Mexico". Some people usually Mainers will get it, and give a little smirk, most people "from away" just look all puzzled and that's the end of the conversation.
Are the "Twin Lakes" considered one, or two? I think they're connected, but not sure. Yep, we're about 20 minutes from there..... I've been to Hell, .....and back.
Ok, wait a minute.....The "Twin Lakes" are right next to each other. What other one are you talking about? We, as you know, have quite a few around here. Yer gettin' me confuzzled.
