Would this be substantial enough for making it into a case splitting tool? This is not my picture. The gentleman who posted it in another forum was using it to remove clutches. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-Zinc-Plated-Solid-Doorstop-15369/202034085
No clue have yet to need a case splitter. Been able to redneck them all apart so far. Had a guy send me a 372 from TN to split. He tried and tried. 30mins after arrival I called where do you want the crank sent. But $4 buy you the right clutch tool for that saw and then use impact or socket with ratchet.
I'm a great believer in using the correct tool for the task. I got the Husqvarna case tool before the price zoomed and modded it to also work for Stihls.
I have a homemade case splitter that bolts on to the studs where the bar sits. And then put a bolt thru the end to push on the crank shaft. I welded a brace across the 90 degree bend so that it could not push away. It looks similar to what you have there except for the brace I added.
That's what I tried to weld up last night but found a hole in my welding guns hose line from where I accidentally set the tractor loader on it when I had it in the garage!!
Never a metal hammer. Thats how folks bust cases. I have had to use a rubber hammer a time or 2. Never needed heat. I wish I had a oem or homemade splitter. I just cant justify cost for my cheap azz and I cant weld for chit to trust it. But it would be nice to have one on hand. If you can make or afford it.
I, for one would love to see the "cheap azz way"...got a vid or a linkee ? or maybe some crude cartoons
I dont do how to video's. Sorry just no time. There are threads about it on ChainsawRepair site with everyones redneck ways to do it. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/index.php Nice work once again Roger.
