Wow, I had no idea about the box elder . I only had a couple pieces that were more less rejects to the previous owner and so I figured what the heck,
free BTU's . They were like 13 or 14 inches x18 so I figured perfect ! get 'em split and stacked ,throw 'em on the pile and they'll be ready by fall. Which BTW were a b^%## to split with a 10 lb mall and go devil axe. Oh well live and learn. Thanks again for all the info,I literally learn something new every day on this forum.

Fanatical 1 is right! That boxelder is special. It is called flamed boxelder and is valuable. A skilled woodturner (which I am not) can make some pretty cool things out of that, including knife handles, deer grunt tubes, duck calls, pens-- you name it. If i were you, i would be looking into selling it. There are several on line sites with people looking for this type of wood. I would LOVE to have a knife handle turned from that wood. I'm not sure you realize what you have there.

Like I said earlier I had no idea of what this wood was worth. Hell,I'd trade it for some seasoned Black Locust .Not picky here just a fair trade would suffice. Thanks again for the info and advice.

I agree, Box Elder. The other stuff I can't say for sure.

I wish we had some pretty wood like box elder and osage orange here. Instead, we have exciting stuff like sugar maple, beech, hickory and ironwood......not that I don't like those woods.....but I'd love to have some really fine looking wood.

    Oh...and, sorry, I got distracted.

A very warm welcome to the site.

Lot of good people on here, with good advice. I have learned a lot by asking questions and reading posts from others. It would be hard to find a place with more cumulative wood knowledge than this site. Welcome aboard, you'll like it here.

about 12 miles from the line.

Good to be productive. I'm trying to get a good wood supply from some bud nippers in the area, but no real luck so far. I have a few places to cut so have not pushed the issue a lot. If I do I'll keep you in mind.
