With 6 full cords of oak, hickory, and beech, CSS....since February 1, 2015. Am I done... NO. Built two more platforms, for stacking today (with the help of my brother), for near future expansion. With the additional 8 cords here, and 3 plus cords at my brothers house, we are getting there. Bring it on, winter of 2018-2019. Future brings no more gathering marginally dry wood. No more trying to get through the winter. Gonna be set for the 3+ year plan soon. Money in the bank!!!
That is a fine selection of firewood! Nice stacks and sawbuck too. Any plans to supplement those with softer, faster drying woods? That's been a big part of my strategy to get to 3 years.
Good job.......this winter was sort of test year as it was the second winter with the new stove. I can confidently say now I am on the 5 year plan.
You are never finished, might have a 3+ year horizon but the funny thing is that it keeps rolling forwards. Good thing is that once you stack over three you can take a year off and not fall horribly behind.
Thanks. Guess you figured out that I saw your sawbuck posts (thanks for your design). Yes, I plan to get more dead, and faster seasoning wood to supplemrnt next winter's wood. My thoughts are to get the out years nailed down, now that the next 2 years are good to go.

Plan to begin work today on the several dead standing oak I have located on top of the ridge. Only problem is that location is where the turkeys were gobbling this morning. Turkey season opens Saturday. Will get pics if I decide to drop one or two. Really don't think the wood cutting activity bothers the turkeys that much. Dropped a red oak Saturday, did some limbing, then saw two gobblers feeding on the ridge about 70 yards away. They did not pay any attention to me, or the red tractor.
It was a test year for me also. Heatpump didn't come on at all this winter. 1st full year with the insert and free standing stoves in the cabin. With both stoves, I am on track to burn about 3 1/2 cords. Now I have an idea how far ahead I am. Looks like I have 4 years nailed down...so far.

Now that there is an honest supply of wood. Now you can move forward knowing you are good to go. I hope your stacks are in a secure area. There are way too many looking for easy pickin's.
This sounds like you have really been working hard at it and will pay dividends that are well worth the price. That part about no more trying to get through the winter is really going to sink in very soon and you'll love it! You have a great selection of firewood there too. Congratulations. But what is that funny looking green stuff on the ground? Easy to relate to the tractor tracks though.
Once that wierd round yellow ball in the sky appeared, a couple of weeks ago, that crazy green bladed stuff came out of the ground. Wild stuff happening in East Tennessee, right now. Even some of the Bradford Pear trees have their party dresses on, I noticed as I went to the bank today. Gettin ready to rock and roll down here.
View attachment 53374 Went up to the top today, and decided on this blowdown smallish oak. Cut the root ball off and it looked....not bad. Hooked the strap and chain to it, after cutting off the top, and pulled it up the hill to the level ground. Stepped it off, and it was 12 big steps (about 36'), then bucked it. Loaded in the Volunteer and transported to the splitter. Really did not add up to much. Battery was dead on the moisture meter, but it was pretty good wood for a blowdown that had been down a long time. At least I got that platform started.
