This is my pattern consistently, year after year. I have to believe that I am just lucky with my wood. My woodlot is on limestone, with almost no topsoil. The trees grow very slowly and have very dense wood. An eight inch diameter tree may be pushing 100 years old. During our bitterly cold February, when the average temperatures were about 20 degree f below normal, both highs and lows, I burned about 12 splits a day. I could count on each decent size split lasting two hours. It was almost all sugar maple. It's funny: my reaction when I read some other's posts of the amount of wood they use is still, after all these years, Wow! How so much? And of course, I have to give some credit to Woodstock and the Progress Hybrid.
Here's a picture of a wood chip from a small diameter tree from my woodlot. What am I doing wrong? I can't get the file to post. Hit upload, hit browse, find the file, it appears in the upper corner to be loading, then no file. Do I do something after entering the file at browse?
Loading from a computer or mobile device? From a computer I can get it done in just a few seconds, not sure how it could take a 1/2 hour. What was the problem?
By all said and done thinking about 5cord with the T5 with no other heat in the house. Gonna buy a little furnace someday for backup.
Used about 2 cords of wood so far, including uglies. And aroind 90 gallons of propane. Could have used more wood except we escaped to Florida for 2 1/2 weeks during the coldest stretch. Typical for us is 2.5 cords per winter.
We've burned 2.5 cords. Only got our Woodstock Ideal Steel installed in November, so we would've needed a little more for the whole season. 100 gallons or so of hating oil. With this spring weather 6 splits keeps the house warm for 24 hours. Nights in the upper 20s and days in the 50s. Air sealing and insulation is planned for this summer, so I imagine we'll use less this coming winter.
just burned last of 10 starting on 11. haven't slowed down yet it's 16 and wind chill is minus 9. we need a it's freezing smiley.
thanks HD that's me. stove is blazing, furnace is still on and its the end of march. snows to deep in woods to get firewood, off to look at wife's want list
How do you burn 7-8 cords in Kentucky????? Are you heating 10,000sq.ft.??? I've burned about 2 2/3rds cord this burning season. I burned higher BTU wood much of this Winter compared to last. My house is only 1100sq.ft. and I have the laundry room curtained off from the rest of the house..................so I'm only actually heating about 900sq.ft.
I figured people in KY were like most people MI and call a "face" cord a cord. Could be heating 10,00 sq ft though!
I'll have burned close to 6 in Virginia - and I know people who burn 7-8. For me it's an older stove that makes me burn more. I also need new windows. For others I know it's a drafty house where someone is home all the time.
looking like about 1.5 cord of soft wood and .5 cord hardwood ( well what we call hard wood Big Leaf Maple) which is basically soft maple
