Gorgeous morning. Clear and frosty! Got out to the woods just as the sun was coming up.

Frost on everything so we had to watch our footing.

Campinspecter got the wood splitter in place and we started processing wood.

Campinspecter does the hard work - bucking the rounds and splitting them.

My job - loading the truck. We got mostly Western Hemlock and one small Douglas Fir.

Nice score!! Is that all free for the taking? Looks like a lot of good wood leftover there.

Wood that doesn't meet industry standard for sending to market is left in the woods. It will get piled up and burnt or taken to a chipper if the market is good for chips. You just need to go to the woods office and get a firewood permit for free.

When it is that cold the pups get left at home. they don't have underfur and one doesn't have any fur on her belly. they did get to go to Granny's and be spoiled by her.

Beautiful to get out early in the mornings. Looks like you had a good day. Frost means that you will see a little bit of winter this year.

Third day out wood cutting. I didn't take pictures of the first day so I guess it didn't happen. My arms could tell a different story. A little warmer today so winter has come and gone. The "kids" came with us but this is where they spent most of the time.

    100_2683.JPG

Campinspecter found three nice Douglas Fir chunks to start with.

    100_2674.JPG

Log dog and winch make it easy to get the rounds to the splitter.

    100_2677.JPG

    100_2678.JPG

At the end, everyone goes for a walk to look for potential wood for the next load.

That is just plain beautiful country. Great too that you can get the wood like you do.

No matter how many times I see this, I'm still fascinated by that wood splinter. I would die for something like that. Can you pull a log out of the pile with it too?

Yes, to some extent. Usually Campinspecter gets the log to a point where he can then haul everything out with the truck. Here is a couple of videos.
