1st day on the saw for 2015. Neighbor is a vet who lost the use of his right arm after getting home from Vietnam due to a motorcycle accident. He does more with 1 arm than most with 2 that I know. He is 67 and slowing down a bit. His son in law manages a tree service and had a small load of logs for him today. 20ft long, about 14" in diameter. There was pin oak, cherry, and some black locust in the load. Felt good to be on the saw again getting a little work in. Might be 3/4 cord after it is split. Had to make room so another load can be dumped. Used the 029 super with a 16" bar. Swapped out sprocket and run a 3/8 50 chain. Makes this little saw act like a badger. Cuts real nice as long as chain is sharp. It is nice for a cold war vet like me to help out another vet. Now if someone can help me straighten up and hand me my coffee that would be great! LOL. I need a few more days like this before breaking out the 066 and really start cutting!
Nice job! You just do not see many neighbors helping neighbors out anymore "or at least not enough". I have 3 retired neighbors, one on each side, and one in front of my house. In the winter I snowblow their driveways, in the fall I run the JD tractor over their lawn picking up leaves, in spring time I get any leaves I missed in the fall. '' Let me tell you, there is no better security system for a house than three retired neighbors with nothing to do all day long. I don't lock my house up, my keys are always in my truck "I have a company car during the day". If anyone that they do not know comes to the house, I will know. Heck the lady across the street took some real good pics of my moms new car when she stopped by one day to grab something. Who needs ADT!
On the contrary, like you and your neighbors, we still have lots of neighbor helping neighbor around here. I hope it never stops.
You're so right Dennis! Something as simple as neighbors helping each other, once in a while, goes a long way...
He started me burning wood 14 years ago. His dad had a 1967 1 ton Chevy dump we rigged a 12 volt 2000# winch to so we could lift large rounds into it. Back up to the piles, pull a lever and dump it. His step son had a high fever when he was little and is on disability from it. He is 40 now and during the winter he plows my drive with their 4 wheeler, so we help each other out when we can. sometimes I benefit and sometimes he benefits, we don't keep score. He did give me 2 cups of coffee and we swapped lies while we worked, LOL. That is payment enough in our little corner of the world.
