Out here in northern idaho its been pretty nice lately 50's sunny so any minute im not at work im out in my faorite place. Got one of my part of the rockies, and a couple of me bucking a lil tamarrack. Pictures curtosie of my wife. Whats it look like where your cutting?
Welcome aboard Steven, glad to have you. Looks like some pretty territory you are working in. Do us a favor though and think about some chaps and eye protection.
I get mine right next to the highway (sorry, no pics). Between what Cal Trans drops for safety reasons and what the weather brings down (CHP today told me that the last wind storm brought down 300 trees in a 15 mile stretch), there seems to be a plentiful supply. Just be sure to get the truck all the way off the pavement. Once I got over the prevailing myth that white fir is inferior fuel, I seem to have a never-ending supply close to home and easily accessed. Cal Trans also limbs the trees they drop.
I don't have access to any cutting areas where I live. I have grapple loads trucked in and stockpile tree length. Best and cheapest and I still get to cut and split myself
I have a nice block of hardwoods on the farm and something is always dying or falling over. The GF is a farm manager on a 400+ acre property and we cut for the farm; mostly her office cottage, and do most of our "charity" cutting over there for people that can't get out like in the past. I don't normally take pics over there.
Just curious as to who you buy grapple loads from and the cost and qty. Is this something I may be able to get in on ? I'm pretty sure I can get a load from the same guy I got a load from last year but just wanted to see if perhaps I could find a better deal. My guy charges 100 per cord and it is a 6 cord load. I cut in the back yard. We had 22+ acres sold off 5 and now have 48 to cut on. Great to walk out the back door and be able to cut a tree or two buck them bring them back to the barn split and stack. It takes no time at all to get 6-8 cord c/s/s this way and its FUN. Just need the snow to go away so I can get back at it.
I cut wherever there is free wood ! LOL I have been trying to finish cutting some hackberry, cherry and walnut from a fencerow a neighbor took out. A farmer a mile west of me sold 400 ash trees out of his woods and has a ton of tops in there. He says 2 guys that deer hunt there want to come in and cut it all for firewood.
