is this small Maple that was damaged in the ice storm last year, I'm thinking next weekend I'll start cutting some.

 

Get 'er done....probably be more before winter is done with us.

 

I'm thinking the end of March (if I'm lucky) I might be able to get in the areas the hold some of our bigger downed wood.

I hope we get an orderly melt so the Brook doesn't get real crazy.

 

Yes sir, we haven't seen any pictures lately of you upcoming victims. I'm sure you have been enjoying the stove and fruits of your labor though.

 

Especially the wife L.P., we're still burning beech & ironwood with more ironwood outside that we planned on burning.

I'll look for the pictures I took last year of this years work, some nice size trees for this lot.

 

I was standing on the back porch yesterday, and heard a really big one fall. Too slick for me to get down there to find if it is on me or my neighbor. I think we can get down there before late March in Tennessee (at least I hope so). Pics are from last year, but to represent that I have a creek that might dictate when I can investigate. You can also get a sense of how steep it is here.

 

That looks steep! The majority of the property I have to work on is every bit that steep and things get hairy quickly so take your time.

 

cribbed ends , it seems on our property the best hardwood comes down on the steepest hills.

 

Someone getting itchy to pull a saw throttle soon? Need to use the sled in there Zap?

 

Certified106 , It is all slow, and (hopefully) well thought out before acting. Gotta pull from either the bottom or the top. No navigating the slopes, for the most part.

Nice pics Zap & Crib, come to think of it that is where I have battled out most of my good wood also down in them deeper valleys. Seems like there is always something against you getting to it, to wet and soft, snow, or to many bugs… Thats where my wood truck gained all it's best character marks from too

 

To me, the character marks are worth it.Since I have owned this place for only 2 years, as I putter around it makes me sad to see what was left to rot before I got here. Wherever I find a downed tree, which has some intact heartwood, I (we) will try to get it either up or down. Slow, but it is worth it. I also get some live blowdowns periodically. This live one (oak) just uprooted in November. CSS now.

 

I'll need the sled for this one or anything else for another month or so, yes, I'm getting or have the itch.

It will be another busy year working the woods, cutting,trail work and we might build a small storage shed near the house.

 

Have you ever thought of satellite storage? Something out in the field in a convenient spot to access and work?

 

We've been talking about something to replace what we call the fred shed, about two years ago in a March snowstorm (wet & heavy) it bent the chit out of the tubing so it looks like once I drop some trees in that area will put up a shed.

In another week or so we'll come up with the size. The corner and middle post will be 6 x 6 post, just not sure if we'll use sono tubes with cement or just the 6x6 pressure treated down the hole.

 

I would need to check also. Top covering is just something I have been doing, usually after stacking.
