Looks great Scotty Overkill ! How is pulling a full load? We got about 5"here so far. Totals upgraded a bit, I think we'll get around 8". Its snowing pretty hard and will continue to around 2 a.m. Hoping we dont get much ice. Have fun!
Did pretty good today....Ended up getting 9 nice sized loads out....a mix of cherry, white oak, red oak and ash. Gonna hit it hard again tomorrow, my buddy Joe is coming down to help so I'm hoping for 12 to 15 loads. That should give me enough wood for 3 or 4 weekends of cooking. I'll continue to get wood out all week so long as the weather cooperates. Hopefully towards the end of next week I'll be able to put the taps out!
Nice looking load of wood with the sled Scotty! Looks like it would be a fun way to harvest some wood in the winter for sure.
Pic of the sled up in the cut that I'm working in. I honestly can't tell you just how much I enjoy being out in the woods in the winter.....I am like a kid when it snows!! Well Seasoned the sled tows nicely on powder and packed trails. It's sluggish on slushy or wet snow, I need to make a set of raised runners for that reason. The snow we have on the ground right now is great! Plus I have my trails all packed in pretty good......took the wife and kids for a tour of the farm this afternoon in the sleigh, they had a blast.....
We ended up with only 2 friggin inches of snow from that "storm". They were predicting 6-9". What a joke!! Lol.. It stayed well-south of us..........
Yes i could see you guys were in the thick of it quite a while. It literally skirted all around us. Maybe the Allegheny Plateau broke it up, that happens sometimes here with storms from the west .....
You need to load one of those 100 car trains with some northeast snow Scotty. I can think of a few places that would love to see you comin to pick it up. Know anybody in the train biz?...
The only thing that stinks is it got icy here with some light rain and ice at the tail end. I bladed as much off the drive as I could and spread ashes this morning so it should melt off today.
Sounds like a lot of folks had bad forecasts. I think that storm also picked up speed which could account for the lower snowfalls.
Outside of Baltimore they were calling for 3 to 5" yesterday. We got 8". They never seem to get it right.
Our forecast was 2-5 and we got 4. When you guess enough times, you'll eventually get one right. Sorry you got robbed Scotty
Well I hauled the last of what I expect to use cooking sap down in the coming weeks.....that's me standing on top of over two and a half cord of wood, all hauled out of the farm with the snowmobile! 24 loads in all!! I still have a HEAP of white oak (from the two Hurricane Sandy blowdowns, that will happen in the coming weeks as we're cooking down sap....but the evaporator fuel is here. Splitting this heap of wood and tapping our trees on Saturday and Sunday.
