6 hrs at a fire scene today... lost two garages, three vehicles, and one house is not liveable any more. Belived to have started from an unattended trash barrel burning.... rewind a little over 4 months ago to November 10th... same guy, same sanerio, leaves burning unattended, he burnt down his place of business. This time the neighbor had more damage, but was extremely lucky to have woke up and got out. This is an up standing guy in town, goes above and beyond for the town, just bad decisions and bad luck. He literally handed me his box of matches crying and apologizing. So... don't leave things burning unattended and always call 911 first, don't try to put it out yourself!
Honestly, there wasn't hardly a breeze until about an hour into the fire, smoke was straight up when I got on scene. (could see it a good ten miles away) Gotta keep an eye on the burn barrels... I drive my wife nuts, any time I burn anything I sit and watch it till it's out, or I drench it with water. I've had to call the fire department on myself once, hated to do it, but I knew to call. (I worked my butt off and got the fire out before they even got to the station) lol when ever my father in law burns grass, MIL calls me to give me a heads up, wife sends me to the station... FIN has a bad rap, one fire gets away from him and he never lives it down.
Ohh... on a good note, we saved the pet cat (boy was he tough to catch) and the flock of chickens living on the back porch!
