But is your shack (I mean house) complete with a traditional Maine (aka Marden's tarp special in blue) roof ?

If so he missed the angle of the suport system or is that due to the photo angle?

It looks like the dog is really looking hard at that support.

My roof is white as well and it is more than a foot deep in some spots. Had 3 feet on the decks and the boss is slowly cleaning the long one so I can pull the stuff on the roof onto it. The deck can handle even more than is there but it is at our self imposed limit. I do the yard and stuff she gets the decks and I get the roof.

Well we have about an inch of rain coming Sunday. Those that have a lot if stuff on there roofs around here may find themselves in a bad situation.

my garage OTOH does have a tarp coating over the shingles (or whats left of them)

the garage roof is about 4 projects down the list right now but was leaking and i store my pellets in there so i bought a huge heavy tarp and stretched it over and anchored it down, its tight as a banjo string so the wind cant get under it. been there for 2 winters and is still not leaking

Yes if your roof wasn't designed for the load it can be a very big issue. The storms since the last time the roof was clear have all been low moisture content and even then most of the snow has blown off.

We are supposed to be on the cold side yet again and the current load on the roof here isn't close to its limit. We keep a close eye on such things Right now the critical thing is the DHW system's vent. Before the last storm we cleaned around both that and the roaster's system. The snow removal has already started for the roof clearing operation.

Yeah but what I see isn't what I'd expect to see so I had to ask. There are load considerations that one plans for but those require vertical being vertical.

Yes calculations were done for load to decide on horizontal beam size and quantity of beams. The vertical support size had to be calculated to determine size of vertical. In my case 4x4 was plenty and those diagonal braces prevent side to side sway.

No way I can see my back roof. I can't walk in 2-4 feet of snow to get out there and check. My son has been looking at it so I'll have to depend on him for letting me know if I need to get something done. I've been looking into some snow shoes. Don't know if they are worth it or not. I can't put them on. Heck, I need help putting on my shoes and socks as it is now!

I was looking into some of those slip on spikes. The last storm the snowblower was trying to run away down hill and I couldn't keep up. I had it in a higher gear than usual that day. Down hill brake doesn't drag as much I learned in a high gear.
