I dont split much with an axe, but was warned a very long time ago to use a stump base about half the height as the one in the painful vid ;) A miss just go's into the ground :smoke:

Dad or whoever that is there should have never let this happen! Even the base log is "WAY" to small and wouldn't stop the ax, Rule of thumb, twice as big as your splitting! Let's just hope she's OK:eek:

And yet the video was posted by the family/friends? It still flabbergasts me the Stupid things folks will post thinking it's funny. That poor kid could have been seriously injured. We all have done stupid things over the years but to advertize them? I prefer to make learning situations out of mistakes by pointing out better options & not dwell on the mistakes of others.

Loon & Dave did this. They shared what they were taught to be safer ways to split. Great posts! I love seeing folks sharing their knowledge to help prevent others from from having problems so they can have enjoyable experiences.

If you see someone who need to be educated, attempt to help teach them but don't advertizes their faults. They may take it with a laugh but I have meet many over the years who have really been hurt badly & have self confidence/self esteem problems as a result of being beaten down time & again, frequently by family & close friends.

It is good to be able to joke around with folks, but be sensitive to other's feelings.

Oh come on, we have no idea what anyone thought when it was first posted. It was probably part of a longer video that may very well h ave been full of regret and warnings to be careful. Someone else probably clipped out these few seconds and turned it into a gif, and THAT's the person that thought it was funny.

Jon, your 100% right on your thought, I just hate seeing people get hurt when it could be avoided! I'm not saying accidents don't happen but she's obviously about 12 years old with a tool that is too big for her. In my opinion, the fool in the video was the grown up;)

Years ago my stepdad was putting in the dock at their cottage and was pounding posts down in the water. Well he missed a swing and broke his kneecap big time  He swore then looked over at me and said i guess we better go to town as my knee 'kinda hurts' We get a laugh out of it now and he always says 'Wish we had a video of that' :D
