    Hello

    http://www.city-data.com

Wow 21% that use Wood as Primary Heat!

In my town of Salem NH it is less than 1%

Do you think this data is accurate? ? ?

Type in your city and see!

Nope, listed as 1% in my town and I'm sure its closer to 5%.

How "wood" they gather the data besides utlities? I still pay the oil man for hot water, so I'm sure I'm considered 100% oil.

    Pretty neat site, good info!

I think they got the wood pretty accurate in my area, but natural gas was listed higher than propane, which I'm not sure I agree with. Heating with electricity was listed the most high at 49%, which seems about right around here. It's the land of heat pumps with electric backup!

    Data might be relatively accurate.
Lots of homes in my area have switched from oil to natural gas and the figures seem high for NG historically but it wouldn't surprise me if the numbers are accurate.
There's nothing there for secondary heat and there's a LOT of secondary and "unreported" wood and pellet burners. There's a lot of people with little oil-filled electric heaters too, especially in apartments.
I think you have to accept the numbers for what they are keeping in mind what they are not.

I'd say it's accurate for my town. 1% woodburners, 82% ng, less lp, and oil was very low. We don't use oil heat around here really. Most places have ng, and it's lp for those that don't have ng.

Says 9% wood heat for the small town near me. Probably about right for in town.

Wood was listed at 2% for me, which as I said before seems accurate. But this morning driving in it seemed like every house that had a chimney had smoke coming out of it. It dropped to -5° last night, which is very rare for this area. I guess everybody that could was trying to supplement their heat!

I doubt I would count towards my town's % since I haven't volunteered my heating information and it's none of their fricking business anyway :D

edit: I said fricking, not fricking!

    edit: ohh frick it! LOL

I don't live in town but there are 17 houses in my "neighborhood". Eight of them use some form of wood heat.

They're showing 4% for my zip code. Highest I've found in surrounding communities and towns is 2% with some not even showing any wood heat. Seems about right. I see a lot of wood stacks and smoking chimneys around here, but not so much when I get closer to town.

It says 1% for the closest town to me, which is 15 miles. I'm sure my township is much higher than that. I can see it in the chimney's when I'm leaving or coming home.

image.jpg This is the zip code beside me. Im much closer to the center of it than my own zip code and the area is much more similar to mine than my own zip. % wood burners seams accurate.

I looked up my listing last night and it doesn't even list pellet or wood burners. We must be such a minority to not even make up 1%. Cool site, lots of local info

It is an interesting site but my town is not listed and the town next to mine that is listed does not list wood as a fuel source, other is 1%. That could be accurate but I have no way of knowing. I guess that explains why everything around here is so expensive compared to most places except for firewood which I see between $150-175 a cord for the most part, sometimes less.

There's a box where you can enter your zip.
