Pete, the P68 like Larry has doesnt have the baffles and ash traps that many others have. I find that even when burning 5 plus ton/year 2-3 complete cleanings (including venting) a year is about all it takes, as long as you are not using crap pellets. When the huge ash pan is full (about 1 ton with good pellets), its time to clean upper, lower, ESP probe and igniter area. Every other ash pan or so, its vent time.

I have yet to have any blockages or burning issues doing this and quite frankly I get the best improvement from a weekly quick firebox cleaning.

    Of course, YMMV

Agreed. Unfortunately where I live, even the "good" pellets are pretty crappy right now so I find my stove needing more maintenance than it did last year when the pellets were considered crappy....

I agree. Never bad to have both, but usually the housing doesn't need to be removed from the stove itself, I just remove the fan assembly. Both can break down over time and become damaged so you may as well have one on hand. I've been slowly hoarding parts for mine. I have an igniter, combustion/exhaust fan gasket, exhaust fan and a vac switch for mine so far. After I get an auger motor and a couple other little doodads I can fix her up right no matter what goes wrong. Contemplating on getting a control panel as well because the prices are only going to go up.

Very true, you really need to pay attention to your own stove. The first year or two I was way more anal about cleaning than I am now as I have found what is needed for MY set up. Like every pellet brand is different, so is every stove.

I clean my upper every week, lower, including brushing the ESP and cleaning the combustion blower impeller every other week. I think my igniter is getting weak because I now have to clean under the burn pot every week to get the stove to light.

Yeah, my igniter is the same vintage as yours and is taking longer to light too, but at season 6 I guess we cant complain if they fail.

Now that has been said, I better have one in hand cause we just jinxed it

Ay least we are in 24/7 burn season so we dont have to worry too much right now :)

I just gave away a 1980's cat stove, too much $$ to get it safe and efficient again.

Yeah it happens. Mine would be a brand spankin new BK though lol. Still not going to do it unless I know I can get a hook up on the parts for years to come. I love my pellet stove.

The beast is cruzin on medium and were sweating! Bumped the stat to 75°F to be sure we were plenty warm. Can hardly tell its the first sub zero night of the season besides the wind howling and my snow shovels headed down the drive way. What ever isn't nailed down is blowing away tonight!

Figures though, Seems the crud has made its way to our neck of the woods and guess who got it first?

Just went down to camp to check on the stove and dumped another bag of pellets in. It is running nice. Right at 50 degrees in the camp. -12 outside right now with wind chill much lower.

True, was very much true with the Napoleon, but this p68 is another beast. I don't know what I am missing, but cleaning it has been easy. The odd part I am not getting the ash I used to. This is a much better stove in so many ways.

Are you burning the same pellets as you did w/ the Napoleon?
