Knowing my fondness for 1106 series Stihls a good buddy of mine hooked me up with a lead on an 090. The seller lived about 45-minutes away and was kind enough to bring it down for me to look at this evening and I'm happy to say he went home without it! It hasn't been cleaned up or anything, but it's a nice example of an 090; all OEM complete runner with nothing missing and no appreciable damage other than one fin from the fan cover . . . thankfully on the bottom. It even has a 1/2" sprocket on it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
It certainly is. I'm no expert on the 090, but I've seen my fair share of them and this is the first one (not gear driven) that I've seen outfitted with a 1/2". I'm reasonably certain it's OE, and do know that although they came with .404 standard it was an available option from the dealer/factory. Not to split hairs, but it's 137cc . Of course what's a bit of rounding among friends!
You need a big bar and chain and lay it across a big log to help support it? I'm sure it would feel right at home on a 48" ?
This particular specimen came with a 42" Duromatic and matching 1/2" chain, although the chain has some rusty sections from sitting for a few years, so I'm going to have to try and resurrect it...
Yes sir. I have managed to rustle up a well-rounded 090 collection that includes a standard model 090, an 090G (upgraded 66mm top end), an early 090AV, and a late 090AV. I also have two 070s with a third on the way. Tonight's score adds another standard model. See current family photo below (lots of bars & chains as well)
All of the 3002 bars will fit the 090 and all of the other saws you mentioned - and several others as well. What I've noticed though is that some of them have chain tensioner holes in different spots (and sometimes multiple holes) and mounted on an 090 versus the saws you listed will affect the DL count for the chain. I need to look into that one of these days...
