Sounds simple, but my toe is killing me. Youtube videos showing the needle, no big deal, but the actual cutting and digging is scaring the chit outta me, lol:hair:

Who has had them cut away and how bad will it be, or nothing to worry about?

Are you getting it professionally done? Its out patient, they use phenol alcohol which will prevent the nail from growing back in that area, and numbs topically as well. As long as you insist on a phenol alcohol treatment, you will be fine.

It's in addition too. I think they apply it ahead of time, though.

I have 6 cut so far, several more due in the future....... (6 sides). Lil bit of litocain to numb for the shot, then the needle & tiny tournequit and you wont feel a thing. You will likely be laying on your back so you won't see anything either. Some odd pulling or tugging sensations then done :)

It usually only takes me a day or two til I can walk almost normally again. I have had minimal pain and elevating the foot is espcially helpful to me the first few days. Honestly the the digestive side effects from the antibiotic are worse IMHO. Oh, you may need a round of antibiotics before the surgery if its already infected.

Not as bad one might expect, way easier than hobbling around in pain :)

I neglected to mention, once the offending nail edge is removed, they put a tiny amnt where that root stems from to kill it so it doesnt grow back again, you won't feel this either, and the whole procedure is quick!

Dig it out yourself. I've done several on myself.

Just soak the offending toe in warm/hot water, and start digging it out.

Good luck with that Well Seasoned . My mother had both her big toes with ingrowns years ago, she had her Dr do some minor in office surgery and she walked out with two big bandages on her big toes. Kinda funny looking.
Let us know how you make out.

Heck, we're all firewood hoarders. We've got axes and hatchets and other sharp implements. Can't you just pop that toe off and end the problem for good?

(Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, and cannot in good faith recommend this as a legitimate medical procedure or solution to toenail issues :D)

When nurse Cratchett walks into the room with a giant stainless steel needle and says bend over, RUN the other way!
