So I swept my chimney!!! I figured, "What the hey, I might not be able to do it in a week." This is what I got after 2 months of burning some pallet wood, silver maple, ash and box elder. That's just over 2 cups. Last year I couldn't sweep until the season was over and got about 5 cups of this type of stuff. Probably would've been less, but I've been doing a lot of cold starts with this mild weather, and I often let the stove go cold. Mostly brown/black coffee grounds looking stuff. The cap had the flaky stuff on it, but not too bad.
Super warm here too. I saw an family fire pit going today on my drive home. 1) I was like, "That's crazy at Christmas." 2) I was like, "I'm way jealous."
It has been warm here all day but the air is suddenly taken on a bit of a bite. If not windy it wouldn't be bad but the temperature is beginning to fall.
It's been dropping all day here. I was on the roof by 8:30AM. Got everything buttoned up and put away by 9:30AM. Getting the stuff out (ladder, brush, rods, etc.) took the most time. Save for the cap, I could've swept my chimney with a giant cotton ball with a rod attached. 95% was the light, fluffy, brown/black stuff. I'm more than pleased, considering all the cold starts I've been doing lately.
So good to have that clean bill of health. Good man! I'm curious what's in store for me since my last sweep was when I reinsulated and added a proper block off plate. Hoping the retained heat makes for a cleaner chimney.
How much is there ? I don't know how much liters & ml are, About a quart there ? gallon ? LOL Looks like you're burning good dry wood ! Is that a measuring pitcher from the kitchen ? 20° here
Did mine this a.m. had some buildup at the very top. I'm figuring from so many start ups and warm days and trying to keep the fire down.
My wife got antsy so cleaned ours yesterday. She didn't get very much but she feels better. That's okay with me.
Wow, that's a lot of cleanout already... yea, been mild here as well, always on the border of a fire or not, too warm for a fire (will get to hot), but yet still a chill in the air and want a fire to warm up a bit. So I've been burning real slow, lazy fires for weeks. Was 58 yesterday, but this morning it was 35, and supposed to start dropping for a cold spell. We shall see!
