    I've had mine for a few years with no problem, and I have a estwing framing hammer built exactly the same way, it's over 30 years old, not even an issue!

    I would think that having a hatchet attached to your belt would be a good thing anytime you go into the wood, but especially should you be in the woods alone.

    I have always preffered the 26" single bit cruizer axe. Used it trapping beaver in northern Wis. back in the early 60's.
    Carryed it deer huntin for many years,I would go back in the swamps 30 miles south of Superior and stay for 3-4 days, life was good I was younger then.
