I think it's about time I check out this downed Maple branch, I hope it's still good. I have a few different trails that I can use to get at this, pics 0556 and 57. Pic 0558 is some Yellow Birch that I left, I might grab that too.
Looks like it'll be ok and with the trails not too hard to get at. I took a walk this afternoon to check out a big chestnut oak that blew down this summer, forgot the camera, but I need to round up a bunch of chains it's in a steep ravine and can't get the tractor very close.
Yes, this is an easy one to get at. I've had a few that I rolled down the hill into the Ravine so I could split it, it was Beech so I felt it was worth the extra work.
Wow man! Some of those pictures remind me of when I lived in Belgium and spent time hiking in the Ardennes near Bastogne.
Cool wish I had a place like that to cut wood. Bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.
Thanks markr , we were very lucky to get it, a once in a lifetime deal. I agree with your statement, it's very relaxing when you're in the woods........even when you're working your azz off.
Gosh I wish I had woods like that to run around in, sure looks beautiful, as for the wood, I hope it's still good for ya. Ya know it's the funniest thing, down here or up here in Stamford, Ct. it's rather city like and almost no one like to burn for heat, mostly open fireplaces, by there are a few of us who have "The Bug", but what I'm getting at is, I don't have to look for wood to cut and split. When people have a big oak, maple, or whatever cut down they don't want the wood, so the tree companies have to charge to haul the wood away for disposal. But that's the plus for me, I'm hooked with a couple of tree companies and all I have to do is call and within a week I have about 6 to 10, 8ft tree trunks maybe more, it depends on how round they are, most I get 6inches up to 24 inches. The power company here has crews out keeping the lines clear and I get all I want from them as well. I wish there was a quick and cheap way to get wood out to all of you and anyone for that matter, I'd clean up $$$$$$ Any ideas?
A beautiful place indeed there thewoodlands. Enjoy the scenery and hopefully the ground will freeze back up soon. Have you been out yet since all the wind? Do you have many more down? I need to take a walk around the property and have a look. I'm going to wait another day I think before I go in again here. Although I have a wicked bug to go out and cut with the new saw today. I think I will. I can walk back and do some thinning in an area about 75 yards behind the house. Drop several trees and buck them up. Then go in with the tractor after the top of the ground gets frozen up again.
You guys have the life, just walking around the property, beautiful things to look at, cut some downed trees, haul them away wit the tractor, very nice I'm jealous.
I decided that Mother Nature is giving us some nice weather sooooooooo, I better get the wood I have split laying around, stacked. I stacked some Ironwood (forgot the pic) the last loads were some Yellow Birch,Beech,Sugar Maple and Cherry. I'll be back at it tomorrow stacking a nice pile of Cherry.
great pics Can see you have some stacking to catch up on. I've seen some of your past pictures where you barely see the stacks with all the snow this time of the year. You're having a mild Winter , so far. Weather trends keep like this, you will get a lot more firewood work done than fun on the sleds this winter.
I should make a big dent in it tomorrow, the big pile of Cherry should be stacked, if I need more wood to finish off the rack I'll grab some of the Maple just up the trail. That's why we bought older used sleds, if we don't get enough snow for sledding until February.....we're not making any payments.
