Hey guys - snagged a minty Husq 51 from CL yesterday. Original owner tossed in the original case, lots of extra files, bar/chain oil, oil mix (low quality - won't use), tools, manuals, etc. Even tossed in the old pair of green scivvies he used as a rag.......yeah, tossed those. Top end in great shape. Good deal at $90 out the door and only 10 minutes away - nice! Posting another thread on trying a muffler mod in a minute. Been a dry season for saws since about September - been hard to find a deal lately. Not the bee's knees of saws, but will be fun to tinker with! Cheers!
Thanks guys. Yes Dave - it was treated well - one of those saws that you start to tear into for a good cleaning an realize the owner was about as anal as we are about saws. Not a lot of cleaning to do - even pretty clean under the muffler when I removed for a look at the piston. Only did a quick start to see how she ran - started right up. Ran her dry of fuel and plan on doing the muffler mod and getting the limiters of the carb for a good tune before I try her in wood - hope to do this tomorrow if the muffler mod seems easy! Cheers!
Nice saw. I personally wouldn't gut out an original mint muffler, thats just me though. You stole that for $90.00
crzybowhntr - I won't use these file guides at all - but not sure it would be worth buying - they have some use and even if I sent it to you for just shipping (which I would), you'd probably be better off buying a new one - they are pretty cheap.
He was preparing to move to Indiana - we hit it off since I lived in Terre Haute for 5 years in my mid-20's - talked about the midwest for awhile! He is an older gentleman and just didn't want to bring to saw with him - he was happy and so was I! Cheers!
Thanks - I seem to come across this series pretty often - not too concerned about tweaking the muffler - will only mod the inside baffle - will look the same from the outside (I think!) minus the paint job I'll give it. Just hoping to put a little pep in its step. IMO this is a nice saw, but not one to worry about from a collector standpoint - I'll use her. Cheers!
That's a great deal on a great firewood saw! I tuned one of these up for a buddy of mine a few years back and was surprised when I ran the saw. You stole it for that price in that condition! Merry Christmas to you!
Thanks everyone - definitely happy. Just finished a minor muff mod, cut the wings from the limiters on the carb and tuned to just under 12.5K - she's running very well. Tested compression and read at 165psi - pretty darn good. Can't wait to get her in some wood - I'll find something in the next week just to test her out. Merry Christmas to you too Scotty and to everyone else - and Happy New Year - may 2015 bring many good saw deals to all of us! Cheers!
Ha - went to ISU for grad school - spent my summers down in Prairie Creek in the Wabash River bottomland forests doing work on bats. Nasty heat, crazy mosquitos, but great folks down there! Cheers!
