Hey guys - just posted about a 51 I scored on CL yesterday. Hoping to try my first muffler mod to see how she does. I've posted some pics of the muffler with baffle. Was thinking about using a dremel to open up a rectangular channel between the three holes nearest the exhaust port, but, I've never done a muffler mod before and would love any and all thoughts on what to do and how to proceed. Thanks! Cheers!

Bump! If anyone has some quick advice, I'd really like to do this tomorrow - but would like an idea before going too far! Thanks! Cheers!

Use a 3/8 drill bit to enlarge each of the holes. This is a really simple mod to do, but should wake the 51 up considerably. It will also make it a little louder. Make sure you clear all metal shavings from the muffler before reassembly, and don't forget to re-tune afterwards.
The 50,51,55 series are great saws. Good luck.

Well, that's easy enough! I'll start there and see how she does - thanks for the info. Cheers!

Yep, as twin dad stated, u see a large bit, or use a Dremel with cutting bit (your choice of shape).

If the outlet is small, it can be opened up as well.

    Then retune and cut! :)

Here's what I would do to keep the baffle in place for support.

what Mike said, and then on the outlet, there should be a little nub sticking down, sand/grind that off. just don't go crazy redirecting the outlet scoop as they melt the the chainbrake cover fairly easy as it is now...

Thanks mdavlee and others - I did the twindad method, and buttoned back up and retuned - but I like the idea of what mdavlee has on the drawing - I think I might redo the mod and see how it does - thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas! Cheers!
