Splittin Elm

    Split some elm this morning that I cut down a week ago. Stuff was absolutely perfect.

    No strings or fuzz. I like to split it when it has this nice ice crystals inside the rounds. Pops right apart like nuthin.

    Yup I seen a bunch of Siberian Elm like that.June 2010 got a pickup load of half dead off CL on other side of town.Split almost as easily as Silver Maple,dried almost as fast.Ready to go in December.

    That's 1 thing I learned from years of dealing with elm. I never dump any until well after the trees have gone dormant. On the few occasions that I have tipped some over when they still had leaves and were in the flush of growth they bleed like a stuck hog and are harder to deal with when processing.

    Good stuff. I love splitting in the winter as well. No bugs piece and quiet. Nice work. Nice splitter. You got a nice amount there :)

    Looking good. Some gnarly looking pieces in the background there :eek:

    I've only ever had red elm and it split pretty easy by hand for me
