I am considering a slightly larger saw than my Stihl MS290 Farm Boss in the future. Something at least 64cc and I want to be able to run up to a 24-25" bar on it.

I won't be buying anytime soon, but I was looking around and came across this 2172 on sale and figured I would post this in case someone was looking for a saw this size.

    http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/jonseredreg;-cs-2166-chainsaw-carb-compliant

    http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/jonseredreg;-70-cc-cs-2172-chainsaw-powerhead

The 2172 is a powerhead only. The 2166 comes with a 24" bar and chain for same price.

Free shipping to store or home.

I don't know what the difference is between the two saws. Both are 70cc. 2166 says CARB compliant and has bar and chain.

Maybe one of you saw guys can explain the difference between the saws to me.

And maybe compare them to buying a similar size Stihl. (Or slightly used Stihl.:))

Same cylinder but the 2166 has a restrictor in the transfers.

What does that do? Much difference in the saw performance?

The 2166 has restrictors in the transfer covers that make it slightly less powerful. There are some site sponsors that could probably beat these prices.

The 2166 will pull the 24" b/c just fine. The 2172 will pull it better.

Try Tlandrum at Wicked Worksaw.com. He is a member here. The others I was thinking of are on other sites I am a member of.

There are no site sponsors!! But they refer to Terry Landrum.

HittinSteel owns the 2166 which has been massaged...

the 2166 is a 365 husky Xtorq in red clothes, and the 2172 is the 372Xtorq in red.

in the 365 and 372 Xtorq's, the engine is exactly the same. 70.7cc the coils are the same, the plastic and cases are the same on the Jred. on the husky, the 372 gets an HD air filter and high top cover. the Jred versions use the same filter as the 365. The 365/2166 has removable transfer covers that have a restrictor cast into them. 10 minutes of your time will save you 100 bucks normally, but that 2172 for 699 is a good deal. but i'd still buy the 2166 with 24" for the same price with free bar and chain. 10 minutes with a dremel and you'll have the same saw

Sorry for the sponsor reference. I forgot which forum I was posting on when I made that post.

There are no sponsors here because of the favoritism that was shown to sponsors on the site many initial members migrated from. You can thank our admins. and mods. for paying their own money to keep the site up and running without ads or sponsors. I have offered on a number of occasions to give them some money to keep the doors open and have always been denied. I did buy some shirts and when the new green ones come in I will buy some of those.

Thanks Scotty Overkill and everyone else for providing us with a great site and all you do!

You definitely have a good site here. Good info is shared without the bickering that goes on on other sites.

    Well said buddy..

We don't stop people like Terry, Randy, or others from talking about their work. But we ask that they don't "Pimp" their products.

Which, as good as the good ones are? They don't need to advertise here. Enough people have that in their Signatures to help them out :)
