What is the going rate for a really nice MS 460 power head only? Starts easy, idles smooth and cuts strong.

    Depends on geographical location.
Someone in Jersey was asking $650 for a pizz pounded 460. Told him he was on crack......then he got sad and cried

Neither one of the two I owned were mint, but the most I have paid is $189.

    Bone stock, mint condition, PHO?

$500 (really good price) to $800. They sold for about $1,000 out the door (w# tax) with a 25"-28" bar.

Price depends on what the buyer thinks he has? And what the seller is willing to pay?

    Do you have any pics?

No pics and yes it is bone stock pho. Not new in the box mint it has been used but not much by the looks of the plastic and the paint on the bottom. I don't really need it but you know!

Well, not having a bar and chain on it has to be taken into account. A 28" bar/chain (pretty common on that size saw) is going to set you back another hundred so allow for that. I think that since the saw is not current production (replaced by 461) that $500 for a pho is a fair price for a nice saw. Why doesn't it have a bar on it?
If the guy turned down $500, how much does he want?

Is the 20" bar in really nice shape? If so, that's $50. Maybe offer him $550/$560 or so and see what he says. 20" bars are very handy to have around. I use that length more than any other on most of my saws.

If your only off $100? I'd do as Mike says and wait him out.

Tell him to sell the bar and chain for $50 to recoup some of the cost?

Very nice Stihl ms460 chainsaw with 32 inch stihl bar and chain. This saw has massive power as it was built before all of the restrictions by the EPA. The saw starts and runs like it is brand new. Dual port muffler and modified by Woods loggers supply in Sedro Wooley. These are very highly sought after by timber fellers and loggers and firewood cutters. There is nothing this saw needs and is ready for every day use. These saws are getting very rare and hard to find especially in this kind of shape.

I would be cautious on that 460. Been dressed up with paint, pop rivets, hard telling what else.

yeah I noticed that broken air cleaner cover with the rivets, did not notice the dress up white paint ( or maybe a new cover) till you pointed it out, nice catch. Like I said cant really justify another saw anyway, unless i were to sell my 361 first
