It was windy and rainy yesterday, did some shopping and sitting around. Had to get out today and do some splitting. Put a half hour in, but these gusts are furious and its too dangerous. If the gusts get any worse, branches/trees will break. I'm so glad I had a bunch taken down 3 weeks ago.
Loads OK for me now. C'mon, man, where's your sense of adventure?? Seriously, looks and sounds pretty breezy. And running the splitter, ya can't hear branches that start cracking.
Just a mild breeeze! That flag would last about 4 mins out here in a blow. I've lost a few! Actually wind never really videos well. I tried to video a blow where I could barely stand up (100mph gusts) and it looked like maybe 20mph breeze, if that.

W.Stover- As usual, my phone taking video doesn't do any justice, but its blowing. Ya, splitter noise doesn't allow hearing any danger from above. Fan1- In that pile, ill probably get 3/4 cord after split. I have an ash to yank up from the cliff, probably a half cord, and the huge hickory down the slide area of the cliff. That one will take time, as every cut will have danger. Pressure points everywhere. Wish I had a fellow hoarder nearby for this one.
Well, you still have some wood to collect which is good. I bet your right on with your guess on the oak, looks like 3/4 of a cord. Might be a little more, I just cut up one like yours that was 18" at the base and it was 3/4 of a cord. Your oak might be bigger. How big is the hickory? I usually don't see them get much bigger than your oak that is down. Good thing is they look like there off the ground for the most part. Are some going to have wait until spring?
I hear ya W.S. Windy as all get out here today too. Tryin to do anything in high winds takes it outta a guy.
The pin oak was 24" at the base. Most of the bigger stuff was processed already. The hickory, same...... seen below, 23" at the base (I took the smaller ofthe 2 measurements) I already processed the first 8' of it, and it was around 20". The tree service pointed out it was quite old. I measured where I left off, and its 16". Ill start limbing it soon, but I doubt ill get it done before the snow flies.
What's worse is at work putting up wire only to have more branches break and take the next section down.
Ever get caught in an area that just keeps you guys looping around? As one area gets going, the next one goes down, etc... until you're back at the beginning again? Must drive you nuts.
Don't blame you a bit with the wind WS. I usually jump right thru my azzh*le down in the woods when it's blowing, and a chunk or a branch comes whistlin' down by... ... you know, when the seemingly harmless "tiny" little branch snaps off and falls to yer feet... digging the 2" dia end 6" into the ground. Kinda gets yer attention doesn't it?
Yes it does. Had a 2 incher about 5ft away from where i was standing at the splitter earlier sticking outta the ground. Im anxious to take a ride when things calm down and see what fell thats easy pickens.
Same here, dang wind shut me down today but it usually leaves some easy stuff. Nice pile of rounds and growing stacks !
