I'm going off 2 things, the pink heart wood and the bark.

The bark looks like poplar/aspens I've cut however the pink heartwood reminds of soft maple. I'm going to say its some sort of soft hardwood in the 15,000-18,000 MBTU/cord range.

Those rounds further away from the camera look like gray birch.

Yep, looks like the quaking aspen I split this year. Stuff holds a ton of water - probably loses more than 1/2 it's weight once it's dry. You'll want to keep it from getting wet, cause it'll soak it right back up, and it rots fast. I'm using it for shoulder season right now - nice for a quick hot fire that doesn't leave any coals.

My first thought or reaction was aspen or poplar. Couple pieces almost look like soft maple. Put it in the pile it'll burn.

Aspen is correct. My neighbor burns wood, but he didn't want it. He said cottonwood is poisonous, so he shouldn't burn it in his Lopi. Oh well, I'll take it for my summer burning to warm my hot water.

Aspen isn't the same as cottonwood, but they're similar. Both poplars. It'll burn :fire:

Looks like bigtooth aspen to me. I think its great for lighting your fires. Dries quick too. You will know when its dry because it weighs about as much as balsa wood (reference to my Estes rocket days).

    Sure saws nice doesn't it?

Yep that's bigtooth aspen for sure. Not the best stuff out there, and it sure stinks when burning, but it's free and it's BTU'S.

    Nice pics there.
