A month or so ago a tree service rolled off a dozen or so large Doug Fir rounds in the wood yard. It has been so hot that I had not gotten around to dealing with them. Last few days have been cooler so I finally got around to it! Day before yesterday I hand split the rounds to manageable size. Interesting that with the hot weather, the rounds were already checking which made the splitting much easier. Yesterday was cool again so I split and stacked. 3 rounds were only 13"-14" (Darned tree service cuts) so I split them small and wheeled them over to the older Lady next door for her small insert I had guessed one half cord+ on the rounds and they stacked up to 6' X 10' and a few inches or almost exactly one half cord + the short rounds! My 3 year plan is met but I could always use another trailer load or maybe two!
The FHC spirit is alive and well in PNW! Nice looking stacks as always Russ. And good on you for helping the neighbor. I know air conditioning isn't as big there as other parts of the country. Do you folks have AC?
Brad, we had a high btu room air conditioner for many years. It mildly tempered the whole house and kept the bedroom cold enough to hang a side of beef. Way too loud to run at night. A year and a half ago we revamped our hvac with a new air handler/heater and an outside heat pump. Way more efficient heating and the cooling side is a game changer. I don't know how we survived the last couple summers without the new equipment!
Look at the ends of that stack- nicely done! September is here so only a few more weeks of hot weather to go. It's 101 today so feels like Fall is a long ways off. Good for you helping out the lady next door!
She is always bringing over loaves of banana bread, freezer gel, plum jam, apple bread and cookies and such. I can't say that providing her with firewood is totally unselfish!
