Hi Tsquini welcome to the forum! Have you searched Craig's list for logs? Wood has gotten scarcer and more expensive at least down my way.. Ray
Good to see you. Watch the FHC classifieds and the wood market, a lot of our members will put up links to craigslist finds.
Welcome to the FHC, Tsquini! I second the advice to look on Craigslist, also maybe check with any tree removal companies in your area. Never know what you may find that way.
Welcome. Not much on Cl. I checked NH out of curiosity. Looks like a few folks are looking by the number of wanted ads. A tree service might be your best bet. My neighbor uses this company. Maybe they can do something for you. http://wood-boy.com/
I've had some good luck in the free section of CL with tree services from western LI giving away wood that they would otherwise have to pay to dispose of. Any other Long Islanders here?
Not sure of your situation as far as land but I cut a deal with a local Tree service to drop all their logs to me in exchange I give him 4 cord a year split and let him park his dump truck, chipper and trailer on my property. He lives in a residential neighborhood and was told by the town "No more parking overnight" I live on 3 acres and am zoned commercial. I found myself in the Firewood business. I already had the Kubota B7800 with a back hoe just added a thumb for the smaller logs. Since then bought a Timberwolf TW-P1 and added a homemade 16 h.p. splitter with hydraulic arms to lift the big rounds. I never planned to be in this business but like I see by this board I am not the only one to get bitten by the Firewood Bug. The only ads I run are on CL is to get rid of any Pine that comes in for outdoor furnaces.
Welcome to the jungle. Grab a seat and u will learn quite a bit from this great group of guys as I did...
Thanks for the welcome and I am always willing to learn, I am west of Albany NY where is Mohegan Lake? Sounds like you are in the Utica area I take some of my firewood money to the Indian Reservation in Verona NY.
The 1st picture of Beech was delivered yesterday already chunked, too heavy for his machine to pick up otherwise. Branches and the trunk (5.5' Dia. by 10" high) will be delivered today. I threw in a few pictures of the mess I still have trying to catch up before the heavy snow comes. I have a 4 man crew coming Sunday (47 degrees so they say) hoping to finish the Beech and cut up some of the piled branches in the yard. I posted a picture of a piece of Oak 46" diameter from two weeks ago it was infested with either ants or termites but it shows how determined they are. My tree guy never knew it was rotted inside till he started to cut it with his 36" Stihl said all of a sudden it was like cutting butter.
