In the past 6 months or so since I found FHC, I changed more about how I think and process firewood than I have in the past 30 years. Quite a place you all have, and I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great information and fun I have here...

Here's the short list of things I have learned:

    - bought a hydraulic splitter - Great advice, and my back thanks you
    - I learned how to season wood correctly - always use to think a year or so was good enough
    - learned how to actually do a decent job sharpening my own chains - huge improvement!
    - I bring my wood under cover for a few months before burning - dry wood is gooder
    - had several great tips on felling a tree - used one last week and it was a big help.
    - PPE - I will be buying chaps soon
    - 3 year plan- I have more firewood seasoning than ever before - Thanks for all the motivational posts!

I'm sure there is a bunch more, but that's a lot of changes for me in 6 months and thanks to everyone for their advice and help and especially pictures! :dancer:

I couldn't agree more with the motivational thing Fan! This forum has me on the computer now, where I didn't even turn it on before. When my wife was on Facebook before FHC, I didn't even notice. Now we fight over it and I've even said maybe it's time we got a second one...  (That didn't go over real well)

FHC has made my firewood time seem 10x more gooder now. And, PapaDave has really helped with my vocablarry...

Stinny, we've had 2 laptops for a while. Keeps us both slightly more sane.

You could get one of these Stinny , much cheaper than a laptop, on sale right now to http://www.walmart.com/ip/21150249?...99984992&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78266454032&veh=sem
Of course there are other brands n sizes, but I can say this is a good one they made by ASUS

I have had mine about a year now, didn't know if I would use it a lot , but I do ,80 percent of the time I'm on here I'm using the tablet .
You can run around where ever you want with no cord for 8-10 hours, I like it a lot . a phone screen is just to small for me.
Just an idea I'm not pushing it on ya :)

I would have burned 1 year oak if not for you guys and what you've taught me. On top of that, the motivation it provides me is real. When I see all the stacks and scores it makes me go out and find some wood! This place is great!

Fan1 Well said! As Locast said, Get those chaps! I had a kick back about +-10 years ago, just grazzed my knee, and 19 stitches later:eek:. It happened so fast I didn't even feel it cut me until i saw the rip in my jeans and felt the blood running down my leg!.

    I wish I learned how to type faster:eek::confused:, I still suck….That's why there's 24 cans of beer in a case:drunk:

    What I've learnt at FHC:
    1) Milk crates aren't just for carrying milk.
    2) If you're three years ahead on wood, you don't need no fancy electronic moisture meter.
    3) The odds of any thread being derailed on FHC approach 100% because beer.
    4) Locust is gooder than oak. Oak is gooder than cherry. Cherry and soft maple are gooder than pine. Pine will burn your house down.
    5) Horizontal and vertical are both gooder than elbow grease when it cones to elm.
    6) Wood will season in a cube. Scotty's cube is so big it warps both space and time.
    7) Black locust has more BTUs per unit weight than plutonium.
    8) Lodgepole pine will still burn just fine in the eastern US even though it's only indigenous to forests west of the Mississippi.
    9) Pyromania is dominant on the XY set of chromosomes and recessive on the XX set of chromosomes. Therefore pyromania is normal in men and just plain fun in chicks.
    10) Because beer.
