I received another log load from new wood supply guy. Hickory, black birch, soft maple, Norway maple, ash, cherry . Not bad at all. About a cord I’m guessing for $150. I think what’s in this pic is hickory but wanted to see what you all thought. I’m going to get some locust from the guy next time. Will post pics
Pretty sure that's Norway maple. It has tricked me into thinking its ash in the past. It should be "whiter" than the other maples and split very easy. Some split pics will confirm. Nice load by the way. Looking forward to seeing the BL of course.
Bark and end grain definitely look like Norway maple to me. That log is surprisingly straight if that's the case. Norway maple yard/street trees are usually unruly, growing crooked with lots of crotches. The ones that escape cultivation and grow up on the edge of the forest competing for sunlight have a nice straight form like that.
