Dont feel bad. Few years ago i cut some big white oak and split it for a friend. I was offered half the wood and took mostly heartwood splits.

Grabbed a couple more “top shelf” loads from next door early this afternoon. That stuff is heavy! I have to back down the yard to load up, then when I’m ready to leave fully loaded it takes a couple tries to get going, since it’s a lot of weight and I’m starting on a hill. Lawn tractor seems to be pulling it well though. 20HP V-Twin engine and I'm being cautious not to abuse it. Not feeling so guilty about getting my share today :) Looking around at all the wood that’s left to process, the bulk of it will be staying on his side. All that means for me is I’m going to continue cherry picking every single piece until I meet my quota.

Have you moved/split any of the rounds from the other tree Eric? You think there was a lot of splits from the first one. You're gonna have primo oak splits coming out of your...well you know!
Have you kept a running tab of how much you've got from next door?

So far only about a face cord. Haven’t touched the larger tree yet, waiting to finish the “easy” rounds you made the other day. Still about 5 of those left to split. You’re right too, once I get into that big boy in the upper part of his yard there’s going to be a mountain of primo splits to drool over

Getting around to stacking what I took so far. 2024-2025 is looking great  This is going to be some of the best oak I’ve ever had (thanks to my cherry picking) I’m planning on filling out one more row like this then... ahhh who am I kidding? We’ll see

Thread bump! After 3 1/2 years of disregarding all the red oak laying just over my property line, opting instead to bring home countless loads from all over, I finally got motivated to start tackling this again. Beautiful weather here in the low 40s with a light breeze. This is just a small start of what was closest to my yard (and an eyesore to look at). As the cutting season progresses I’ll pick away at all the huge sections left further up into my neighbor’s yard. If I were to clean it all up this winter, there is probably enough there to meet my quota for the entire hoarding season.

Oh it'll get moved alright :) The last I talked to my neighbor about it, he was fine with me taking all of whatever is left. Heck, of the cord and a half I split and stacked for him back in 2021, every stick of it is still sitting there, uncovered, rotting away.

Oak for a outdoor fire seems like such a waste to me. I'd be trying to trade it for pine. Rotting on the ground is unconscionable.

Narrow sap ring on that one. Don't recall on the other just recall it being the biggest log I've ever put a saw into.

If you need a hand just hollar. Always glad to lend a hand...or saw. I'll let you try the 500i!!! :saw:
