Hurricane Milton has exploded in just under 24 hours. Right now it's a strong Cat 4 but will most likely be a Cat 5 soon before weakening to a 3-4 before making landfall around the Tampa area. Definitely a strange storm track and will have a strong storm surge approaching the coast straight on.

No way I could live in an area prone to hurricanes or tornadoes. Hope those people get out of dodge.

My father moved to the Dunedin/Clearwater area two years ago and has already had to endure a few hurricanes. His lifelong dream to live in FL, loves it but starting to question his decision.

I was with him down in Key West last week, along with a bunch of other friends eating, fishing, and drinking...... He decided to stay put for the week and not fly back to St. Pete's, I don't blame him and at least he's projected to be safe where he's at although costing him money.

I love to "Vacation" in Florida, but I don't really have much of desire to live there between the heat and the storms, I still enjoy the seasons.

We have friends in the Clearwater area. Hope they evacuate. As was mentioned, that is a strange track, most travel W/NW...
We are supposed to leave Port of Tampa on the 28th...guess we will see what happens

I used to live in St Petersburg, and stuff like this further cements it in my mind that leaving was a good choice. I definitely don’t mind being occasionally snowed in for a couple days after a Nor’Easter.

Maybe this is supposed to say "leave for Port of Tampa"?

    It might not be there....

I'll take sub zero temps and feet of snow over this crap and the uncertainties associated with it.

Hate to say it, but moving to the mountains did not help the folks during Helene!

We have some friends in Seminole. They said there are no evacuation orders posted yet so ad far as I know, they are still there. They were as of yesterday afternoon. If it were me I'd be heading out of there as quickly as possible.

I would be gone also...Nothing you can do if you stay, can always head back in and shoot looters after the storm passes!

That's good she got out early. Pinellas county FL is almost completely flat, like a frying pan. Other than highway overpasses there isn't too much high ground, and no natural features to buffer the wind. A bad storm surge would inundate a lot of that area, especially if it made landfall at high tide.
